La Entrada al Pacifico

The La Entrada al Pacifico Corridor is a state and federally designated trade corridor from the Permian Basin in Texas to Chihuahua City, Chihuahua, Mexico, and continuing to the Mexican Pacific port of Topolobampo in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. Chihuahua is one of the two largest trading partner states with the United States, and this corridor captures a majority of this trade for Texas.

The concept of this major trade corridor was developed jointly by MOTRAN and the Departments of Economic Development of the states of Chihuahua, Sinaloa, and Durango. All four entities strongly support the development of this corridor.

There has long been an effort to try and diversify our area economy over the years, to help provide some stability during the ups and downs of our energy-based economy. One of the early ideas was to look at capitalizing on our location as a regional hub for exports and distribution opportunities. In more recent times, the development of natural gas pipelines along the route has opened up new markets for Permian Basin natural gas, and reduced Mexico’s reliance on expensive coal fired facilities.
