Kodiak and Aurora, two of the leading autonomous trucking companies are expanding their driverless freight footprints in the Permian Basin. Kodiak has been partnered with Atlas to deliver sand from distribution points to wellsite locations and recently added a maintenance facility in Odessa, Texas. Most recently, Aurora announced their partnership with Detmar trucking to begin operation on sand delivery on public roadways in the Permian Basin starting in 2026. While some are concerned by driverless trucks, analysis of the safety records show an extremely low rate of mishaps, and all relate to the actions of drivers in other vehicles.
